An important objective for TRTA members is to enhance the safety of their equipment. In the mid-1990s, the first, still very limited, ABS systems for towed equipment came onto the market.
TRTA was considered by several suppliers as an ideal "field test partner" to test these new systems in practice under tough conditions. The results were also (and still are) openly shared during the meetings.
The usual frequent change of tractors among TRTA members represented a "worst-case" scenario in this respect. Professional fleet management is responsible for an adequate exchange of information. ABS became mandatory for all new vehicles in 2004.
