Developments in the transport sector regarding CO2 reductions are not in line with the Climate Accord (30% CO2 reduction by 2030). Various techniques such as hydrogen and electrification will only be able to be rolled out on a large scale after the respective deadline. Until then, there are very few (major) technological steps that can be taken. Nevertheless, TRTA sees opportunities to achieve major reductions in the short term by introducing the DUO trailer, an LZV combination with two trailers.
TRTA is currently working on the concept of the DUO Trailer: By introducing DUO Trailers, 2 paired trailers, CO2 reductions of 20 to 40% can be achieved. In collaboration with TNO and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, the risk analysis is currently being submitted to the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW). Once approved, testing can take place in Lelystad on the RDW circuit. This will be followed by 4 tests with routes on Dutch motorways. This will take place over the course of 2021.
